Estate-grown, produced and bottled by Hahn Estate, our SLH wines reflect the best from our vineyards in the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation. The Hahn SLH Estate Pinot Noir comprises grapes grown from Hahn’s four Santa Lucia Highlands Vineyards: Smith Vineyard, Lone Oak Vineyard, Doctor’s Vineyard and Hook Vineyard. Each individual site brings its own unique character to the final blend while the cool climactic conditions are ideal for growing Pinot Noir.
The 2011 vintage was renowned as one of the more challenging vintages in recent years. Cold weather during summer and early fall extended the harvest season well into November while simultaneously restricting grape yields. The combination of a longer growing season and smaller crop throughout the Santa Lucia Highlands created fruit of incredible intensity and balance. The extended growing season allowed our winemakers to select different clonal selections from our different vineyards: Clones 113, 115, 667, 777 and 2A from the Hook Vineyard, Mt. Eden from the Smith Vineyard, Pommard 5 from the Lone Oak and Jackson 9 from Doctor’s Vineyard. Hand harvested from each vineyard, the grapes were then manually sorted for quality prior to de-stemming and fermentation. Once fermented the wine was aged in 40% new French oak for 11 months.
